The Opportunity Hub

The Opportunity Hub is a resource where members of the community can come for assistance in a variety of areas, such as job finding, legal help, healthcare, child care and more.

This project was largely led by a team of Industrial Design students from the University of Cincinnati, who were recruited, managed and coached by staff from Neighborhood Grow, 39A Design, and the Economics of Compassion Initiative.

Lower Price Hill has an intimate scale, quiet streets, a wide variety of historic architecture, green space, a history of strong community organizations and several other assets.

At this time, however, Lower Price Hill enjoys several significant opportunities to catalyze a growth in community energy, entrepreneurship and revitalization:

  • Lower Price Hill has an increasing number of storefront and light manufacturing/small distribution spaces coming available in 2018 ,including several ground-level retail spaces are expected to be reopened for use.

  • As Greater Cincinnati’s entrepreneurial ecosystem continues to mature, a notable gap has developed in targeted training and support for small businesses that have passed the concept testing stage, but have not yet achieved sustainable income. This gap is particularly pronounced among entrepreneurs from historically disadvantaged communities. Successful entrepreneurs in this space would be particularly good additions to Lower Price Hill, and a

  • Recent initiatives indicated a renewed energy around finding innovative solutions to the communities’ needs. These include a revitalized interest in the area on the part of several nonprofits, grassroots growth of micro-entrepreneurship, and a community engagement and visioning process designed around the re-design of a Community Matters space for more extensive community use.
